Articles Of Diversity and a Summary:

Article One: This article relates to a major Keynotes speaker company called CES. A Tech Trade show held annually has decided to redouble its efforts to have more women on its workforce to better improve diversity among representative speakers at the the Conferences so as to better reach out to audiences of both genders. An odd notion to come under fire I thought, considering that the company CES mentions looking for both men and women that have the capabilities to work at their conferences, but finding men wasn't as difficult as finding qualified women. That notion caught me off guard because it implies those that were able to truly work with knowledgeable efficiency were men. An interesting notion that I believe could find different results if conducted a second time.

Article two 1/27/2018): Government Shutdown threatening political progress with imigration integration:
In both parties of recent events, a shut down has begun due to clashes between both parties in order to support funding for a better wall or a better immigration policy for immigration. One of America's biggest and most influential aspects of diversity began with the immigration of hundreds of thousands of diverse ethnic groups. These groups and voices are what helped America become the unique nation that it is today. As a nation we keep evolving and changing due to our ability to create and change new cultural and diversity aspects throughout our population.. That's what makes us unique in that regard. Without this, we force ourselves into and isolationsist past. One that we cannot thrive from as a nation.

Article Number 3 2/4/2018: Trump comments on players protesting National Anthem:
http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2018/02/04/anti-trump-espn-writer-jemele-hill-says-president-uses-racial-pornography-to-stoke-his-base.html
Recently Trump has bashed National Football Players for protesting the National Anthem by not standing, claiming that it was unpatriotic and stood against our nations values. A voice rang out to call the whistle on his jab at the players, calling Trump out on his brashness. I found this to be amusing and totally accurate, as the NFL players were speaking their minds by protesting, which is not only their right, but encouraged to FREE citizens of America. She states: "
Hill added she thought Trump to be "weirdly brilliant because he has been able to hijack the entire conversation and to make this about patriotism and really, if anybody knew even the smallest bit of American history, they would understand that what the players have chosen to do is the most patriotic thing that you could."
This Quote helps to identify that the players had the right to actually say these things, and by calling out Trump they made sure to emphasis the rights to ones own voice in America's society.

Summary of Chicano and Hispanic theatre: Both Chicano and Hispanic theatre come from a history of struggle in the Latin Commnity. Since coming to the U.S. as late as the 1500's, the Latin community has been a mixed one at best, ranging from isolation to cultural clashes of the Anglo-Americans and Mexican Americans of the 19th century. During the 19th century both Anglo and Hispanics had to deal with the problem that was the New Independent Mexico. With high Tariff's and Economic Stress, both parties suffered and went through war with Mexico, winning Independence before merging with the U.S. in certain aspects. Hispanic culture remained distinct here, however, and upon the Gold Rush both Anglo and Hispanics were in new turmoil within the U.S. To combat this, Hispanics made tight knit communities and arts that represented their culture and way of life. While scrutinized by scholars, the culture of Art reflected the changing communities of both parties as they further integrated into the U.S. Even though the South region of the U.S. only really saw these cultures, they are still prevalent today and are based around their song tradition and improvisation. Sadly, these plays and traditions have changed with society since the second World War, leading to new substantially altered materials.

2/10/2018 Voices article summary:
This articles going to be a little bit different than the rest. There's a new type of drone out called a fixed-wing drone. This type of Drone is unlike any other drones because of (not only its fixed wings) but because of the new features that come with it and what they can do. This type of drone holds better range than many of its predicessors. It also has new VR capabilities that the Drone user can utilize to get an exact image of what the Drone sees. Another aspect is that this drone is nearly silent, meaning that at the right altitude, no one would be able to hear it. This, mixed with its enhanced zoom capabilities, has led to some frightening controversy regarding both privacy and national security. Popular apps and websites such as Reddit and Imgur are already discussing the potential of this new drone. While some joke about peeping in on other peoples lives and privacy, others are far more skeptical about the possibility of this actually happening at all.

2/16/2018: REZ SISTERS SUMMARY:
With Native Americans they tended to focus on religious rituals, shared values, and communal celebrations of Native American tribes. They are more interactive because they actually use audience members to convey their themes and play scenes. The diverse genre of the natives changed drastically when they were met with foreigners. Before introduction to other races Native Americans had many plays about the creation of the world. These plays showed the unity of Cosmic halves, the survival of crops, and the persistence of ritual sustainability within the tribes. While much of Native American theatre was destroyed when whites took over their land, contemporary Native American theatre still persists today, albeit very low in numbers. This type of theatre aims to bring together rituals and beliefs passed on from European-American drama traits. These contemporary pieces are a better representation of Indians in present society.

2/16/2018 VOICES ARTICLE SUMMARY:

In Vietnam there have been a multitude of problems that have arisen around their gas station dispensaries. Lately there's been a rise in human casualties ranging from minimal injuries to concussions and broken limbs. The culprit? Cigarette butts and leaky gas buildups. People who smoke almost always throw away their cigarette butts instead of throwing them away, this has led to many problems as Vietnam hasn't installed proper waste management regulations. People who normally dump their cigarette butts into sewers are now potentially dropping a lit "Primer" onto an unstable leak. These leaks explode with the combustive force of a hand grenade, exploding upwards and out of the sewers. The only reason people haven't actually died is because of the sewer lids that they stand on. These often launch them into the air and while they normally sustain significant injury, they are not life threatening. Many Gas Station owners wish to have regulations about not smoking near gas stations due to the threat of an open flame. We all know that you simply cannot have a source of flame around gas stations, but due to the more primitive industrial storage tanks in the more rural areas of Vietnam, affordable newer (safer) tanks are out of the question.

2/19/2018 Voices Article Summary: Transgender Olympic Controversy became prevalent during me RA's meeting about transgenders abilities to perform in the 2018 Olympics this year. The trouble began when a man wearing a Trump hat showed up and allegedly 'triggered' one of my former friends to lash out against him for the rest of the meeting simply because she didn't support what his hat stood for. What happened after that was an awkward meeting where whenever the Trump supporter tried to talk he was immediately verbally attacked by my former friend. He made excellent points how transgender women would have a more difficult time competing with men as they are naturally more built than women are, but she would actually debunk anything he said, stating that he didn't know anything about the subject nor should he be able to speak about it because he "wasn't transgender" or "didn't understand what it was like to be trans." Now I understand that one could say that transgenders are hard-pressed to compete with their opposite genders in the Olympics, but to verbally assault someone because of a hat they are wearing that has nothing to due with what's going on. The man was nothing but cordial and respectful, but he was actually barred from the conversation because of what he believed in, which is outlandish and preposterous.
UGA Office of Social Events.

2/25/2018 Voices of Article Summary: UGA Detroit Play Controversy has arose among-st UGA students who attended the event for Theatre classes. Within my Appreciation of Theatre class many students argued whether or not they should have to watch a play that actually forces them to watch a play that contains nudity. In the play there's an entire 10 minute scene where all characters party and one of them is mooned and keeps his pants down in a drunken stupor for the remainder of the scene. Many students became uncomfortable with the scene and wished to leave until it was over, but our class rubric states that they cannot leave the play and must watch it all the way through. Many argue that the play could have easily been completed without the use of nudity, while others (myself included) understand that it is a necessary part of the plot because it authenticates the scene and the commitment of the actors.

4 March 2018: CDC Commander Timothy declared missing.
In a shocking turn of events, Commander Timothy has been declared Missing by the U.S. Government. A 10,000 dollar reward is made available regarding his whereabouts. This man has disappeared without a trace and left his family worried after he briefly spoke with them on the phone before disappearing. Upon searching his home, the family found his dog, wallet, keys, passport, phone, and other belongings left behind, as well as two entry points being left open. Oddly, no foul play has been ruled. Something that’s being brought up about this case are the confidentiality and liabilities that could arise now that a member of the CDC has gone missing. The Government will not disclose what he was working on, and the family is on edge because of his odd final words spoken with them. This could quickly develop into a larger problem if he isn’t found soon. I want to know what he was working on to warrant such a confusing situation.

11 March 2018: Georgia Retaliates to Delta’s supposedly biased decision to cut our NRA benefit discounts. Given the recent shootings, Delta has made a public statement that it will no longer allow the NRA to have discounts when flying with them to their conventions. The NRA saw this as an attempt for Delta to avoid the backlash of a bandwagon supporting the dislodging of the NRA, appealing to them to avoid being implicated as NRA supporters and losing business. Although Delta has declared that it is purely being a neutral party in the matter, but the NRA has retaliated. The NRA holds large influence in Georgia, and as such has helped sway the bill vote to remove a critical tax exemption that would directly benefit Delta. A possible 50 Million Dollar Sales Tax has been removed from the bill as a means or Retaliation by Georgia and the NRA. I personally feel as though this is a very difficult subject. One side holds a main form of monopolized transportation, while the other has one of the largest groups that hold sway in our Georgia Political System. I personally believe it would be in the best interest for both parties to focus on a mutually beneficial solution so that they can actually make the best for not only each community, but for the general population as a whole. This tax exemption could allow Delta a relieve in Cash flow, so they could potentially lower prices for consumers, while the NRA could get their discounts back, which they only use a few times a year.

18 March 2018: South Sudan will be free of society crippling Guinea Worms within 3 years.
South Sudan has been plagued by a parasitic worm that lies in wait in fresh water and enters the body through any exposed orifice. The main problem with this is that the worm grows to a yard long and caused acidic blister in the body. This then drives the victim to dunk it into water, where MILLIONS of larvae are released by the worm. Thankfully, the incident have dropped to a low 30 infestations in the last year. This is amazing news, since around 1986 there were over 3.5 MILLION cases. A problem with this is that solutions could be the 7,200 volunteers that could be trained to treat these infections. But this situation could have drawbacks that I feel should be voiced, such as these countries needing Professional Medical Training and possibly equipment as well in order to kick start this Parasitic Purge. Which country will provide the aid, and could there possibly be drawbacks from an expensive outing such as this? Possibly by bringing a parasite back by chance? I feel these possibilities should be looked into and approached with the HIGHEST caution.

25 March 2018: Cyber Attack on Atlanta:
I personally experienced the events of the Ransomware attack on Atlanta this week. Technological services such as WIFI in the Atlanta Airport, Billing Services and other technological means of productions and processing were brought to a standstill by a massive virus attack. The work done by these hackers leaves one week to make a decision before all the files hacked are permanently destroyed, which contain not only important information regarding business, but also information regarding personal files, bills, etc. that can cripple businesses and families. A HUGE aspect of this is how easily and entire city and government can be overpowered by one simple group of well-trained hackers. Companies such as Cisco Security, Dell Secure Works, and other groups have completely denied to comment on the issues. Even the GOVERNMENT isn’t talking about this issue. This is a topic of major controversy, because we are putting our trust into these systems to protect us from attacks such as these. If our government can’t even do this, what system do we actually have protecting us? Who or what can we rely on?

1 April 2018: Supreme Court and Racism:

This article brings to light the problems regarding continued racism and blockage of voters against minorities. After Trump's election, there has been a massive uprising in racism and and white nationalism. While these have occured the president hasn't spoken out morally against it. Then, on top of that, Republican party members have pushed legistlation promoting difficulties for minorities. It's actually stated that "

They can also depress turnout, when voters who are not in fact blocked from voting become discouraged by a state apparatus that exudes hostility toward their attempts to exercise their fundamental right."

These events would make Martin Luther cry, for they push against everything that "Justice delayed is justice denied." It's imperative that we push forward the change to make all equal in every way so that we can actually have an equal diverse group of citizens, not minorities.

8 April 2018: CDC member Timothy J. Cunningham found dead:
Disastor falls today as
an important member of the CDC was found dead in a river today. It has been stated that there was no foul play suspected in his death, but many are left to wonder what actually happened to the CDC agent. I find it troubling that he was found so far down in an isolated part of the Chattahoochee river, and that he was wearing his normal running gear. I wonder if there is anything suspect behind this, because as a predominant agent in the CDC, there is a security risk factor that must be taken into account. The fact that his body was found in such an isolated area adds to the possibility that he may actually have been a victim of foul play. To me, this is a major security risk that needs to be addressed immediately.

15 April 2018: Neo-Nazi Rally Causes a Ruckus
There has been social uproar as a Neo-Nazi demonstration occurred outside of Atlanta in Newnan Georigia. When news reached the general public, 38,000 members gathered to address the issue of these individuals. Even a helicopter joined the protest stating Newnans support the rights of today's society. I persoanlly enjoy the fact that we live in a community where people openly oppose the oppressive views of the past and come together despite or ethnic backgrounds. As a society its imperative that we move forward and support one another through these troubling times.
